Healing after Birth Print E-mail

The most important thing a woman can DO after birthing is ‘nothing’.
Nothing as she would have perhaps scripted it before being pregnant.

She can surely BE – a new mum – that is recline and gracefully fall in love

  • Lying about in bed with nothing much on whilst bonding with an almost naked baby is the MOST important task a mammal (as we are) can be doing after birthing baby.
  • Not entertaining visitors, not doing loads of washing not playing with toddler – bonding with newborn.
  • Resting up so the body can spring back to being resilient.
  • Thus allowing healing to happen.

Skin to skin, above all else

"skin to skin after birth for the first two hours is SO important -more important than making a big effort to get that baby to breastfeed.. MAINLY because I realize that it helps the diad - mother and baby - to recover from the birth experience"

Zinc - the Missing Link

How does our body repair itself?

Often the role of nutrients is undervalued.

Zinc (a micronutrient) is vital for us to have great digestion – and from here everything else is possible.
Zinc is deficient in the soils of New Zealand and Australia and hence most foods are not supporting us.
looking to the Zinc Tally taste test- available at larger health food shops with naturopaths in residence, or seeing a naturopath and asking for this will alert you to this most important helper in keeping baby health perfect.

Also your own health – as Zinc deficiency shows up
·         Poor wound healing
·         Poor immunity/easy to ‘catch’ things – and not recover well afterwards
·         Falling hair
·         Poor skin in general
·         Mucous and allergies
·         Food sensitivities
·         Emotional imbalances
·         Inability to function – due to poor food assimilation/digestion
·         Candida and other gut imbalances

It can be thus seen that Zinc depletion/deficiency may be where you start looking BEFORE the whole ’sick’ baby /damaged mother raft of complaints starts.
